چکیده

The aim of this paper is twofold. First to take stock of the state of the AMoC project after three years of research (funded by the Swiss National Foundation for Research) by relating to available notes that we have published. Second, to show how potential collaborations may come within the framework of our research interest (in AMoC and more generally in the PAI group). Therefore, this paper does not contain any new experimental result, yet it proposes a rich synthesis allowing the state of the art of the AMoC project to be understood. All results till now have already appeared in internal working papers ([10], [11], [13], [19], [14], [21], [20], [59]), in conference proceedings ([12], [22], [16], [9], [38], [61], [60]) or in journals ([18], [37]). Papers printed in conference proceedings and/or in journals are generally short versions of internal working papers.

Issues and approaches in the design of collective autonomous agents

The problem of synthesizing and analyzing collective autonomous agents has only recently begun to be practically studied by the robotics community. This paper overviews the most prominent directions of research, deenes key terms, and summarizes the main issues. Finally, it brieey describes our approach to controlling group behavior and its relation to the eld as a whole.

Collective Locomotion

We are pursuing a bottom-up exploration of the evolution of behaviours involving collective locomotion of numerous miniature autonomous mobile robots. Collective locomotion is a subset of collective robotics [Bonabeau & Theraulaz 94] which focuses on the specific tasks required to move a group of autonomous agents (e.g. mobile virtual or physical robots) from an origin to a destination. It deal...

A Collective Robotics Application Based on Emergence and Self-organization

This paper presents a collective robotics application, which consists of making a pool of robots regroup objects that are distributed in their environment. The innovative aspect in our approach rests on a system integrating operationally autonomous robots that make the global task achieved by virtue of emergence and self-organization.

Nanosystem Design with Dynamic Collision Detection for Autonomous Nanorobot Motion Control using Neural Networks

The authors present a new approach within advanced graphics simulations for the problem of nano-assembly automation and its application in medicine using collective robotics. The problem under study concentrates its main focus on autonomous control for nanorobot teams coordination as a suitable way to perform a large range of tasks and assembly manipulation in a complex environment. The present...

Collective Energy Foraging of Robot Swarms and Robot Organisms

Cooperation and competition among stand-alone swarm agents increase collective fitness of the whole system. A principally new kind of collective systems is demonstrated by some bacteria and fungi, when they build symbiotic organisms. Symbiotic life forms emerge new functional and self-developmental capabilities, which allow better survival of swarm agents in different environments. In this pape...

Collective energy homeostasis in a large-scale microrobotic swarm

This paper introduces an approach that allows swarm robots to maintain their individual and collective energetic homeostasis. The on-board recharging electronics and intelligent docking stations enable the robots to perform autonomous recharging from low energy states. The procedure of collective decisionmaking increases collective efficiency by preventing bottlenecks at docking stations and th...
